Regarded as one of the best strikers of his generation, Van Persie, who is the Netherlands’ record scorer with 50 goals is a new addition to BT Sport’s football team for the 2019/20 season.
Born in Rotterdam, Van Persie made his professional debut for Feyenoord in 2001 before signing a four-year deal with Arsenal in May 2004.
He scored 132 goals for The Gunners and won the 2004 Community Shield and the 2005 FA Cup before moving to Manchester United in August 2012.
In his first season at Old Trafford, he won the 2012–13 Premier League and finished as the league's top scorer with 26 goals, winning his second consecutive Premier League Golden Boot award.
Van Persie joined Turkish side Fenerbahce in 2015 and re-joined Feyenoord in 2018 in his last season before retiring and joining the BT Sport team.
He has over 100 caps for Netherlands and he has represented his country at the 2006, 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups, and the 2008 and 2012 UEFA European Championships.
