Man City identify Leicester’s Harry Maguire as Vincent Kompany successor
Following the departure of club captain and legend Vincent Kompany, Manchester City are on the lookout for a new centre back for next season. According to The Daily Mail, the player City have identified to fill the void is Leicester City star Harry Maguire. The article claims Pep Guardiola became enamoured with Maguire after his display against the Citizens earlier in the season, and even ‘made a beeline for’ the England star to lavish him with praise post-game. Having signed a new contract as recently as last September, Maguire will not come cheap however. The Mail claims that, due to the Maguire’s age and nationality, City may need to break their own transfer record, as well as the world-record price for a defender set in 2018 when Liverpool paid £75m for Virgil van Dijk. Whether City, already under scrutiny for their finances, would be willing to pay such a fee for a player not guaranteed to start every week remains to be seen.
PSG ready to pay big to lure Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante back to France
Paris Saint-Germain are 'determined' to sign Chelsea star N'Golo Kante this summer. The French giants may have won Ligue 1 again this season but building a team capable of going the distance in the Champions League remains the goal, with an elite central midfielder top of the shortlist this summer. Chelsea would be loathe to lose one of their most important players, particularly with the possibility of an impending two-window transfer ban. However, The Daily Mirror reports that PSG will press on in their attempts to land the France international regardless, having shelved plans to bring in Everton's Idrissa Gueye. Despite Kante being on a reported £290,000-a-week deal (signed last year), it is claimed that the Ligue 1 champions would be willing to increase his wages further in a bid to lure him to the French capital. If Les Parisiens are unable to complete a deal for the Chelsea man, then the Mirror reports they will instead turn their attention to Watford’s Abdoulaye Doucoure.
Arsenal tracking Saint-Etienne star William Saliba for defensive makeover
Arsenal have made Saint-Etienne defender William Saliba a ‘top summer target’, as they look to press ahead with a defensive revamp. Goal reports that the Gunners have watched the 6ft 4in 18-year-old Saliba ‘extensively’ this season and sent scouts to watch him in the 3-0 over Patrick Vieira’s Nice on Sunday. Though the player signed a new contract in April, Saint-Etienne are expecting him to leave sooner rather than later following extensive interest from across Europe, with Goal quoting a price of £25m for the France youth international. However, Arsenal’s summer ambitions may hinge on the Europa League final later this month, with many reports suggesting that failure to win the game and subsequently qualify for next season’s Champions League will result in a reduced budget.
Manchester United to target Tanguy Ndombele as Paul Pogba replacement
Manchester United interest in coveted Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele may hinge on the future of Paul Pogba. United are keen on 22-year-old Ndombele, who has also been linked with almost all of Europe’s top clubs this summer, but will wait to clarify the future of Pogba, according to Metro. Pogba and his agent Mino Raiola appear, from the outside at least, to be agitating for a move away from Old Trafford after a turbulent season, with Real Madrid’s Galacticos 3.0 project a possibility for the World Cup winner. If Pogba does leave, United could turn to Ndombele - assuming someone else hasn’t already snapped him up. However, they will need to pay big, with Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas demanding around €100m (£88m) for his star man.
