Simon Mignolet and Liverpool support Premier League and BT disability programme

Autistic Liverpool fan Darragh gets a surprise visit from goalkeeper Simon Mignolet in the latest BT Sport film.

Autistic Liverpool fan Darragh gets a surprise visit from goalkeeper Simon Mignolet in the latest BT Sport film, which showcases the work delivered by football clubs as part of the Premier League and BT Disability programme and which aired during Premier League Tonight on BT Sport 1 on Saturday 9 February.

11 year-old Darragh is a participant in Liverpool FC Foundation’s Respect 4 All sessions which provides free weekly sports, football and physical activity sessions for children and young people with complex and additional needs across the Liverpool City Region.

Simon Mignolet headed down to one of the inclusive sessions to see Darragh, who has been taking part in the programme for four years and who as a result of his participation has improved in confidence both on and off the football pitch.

The award-winning BT Sport Films team is producing and broadcasting short films on individuals and storylines involved in the Premier League and BT Disability programme, raising the profile of the project and the clubs’ broader inclusion work to millions of people.

Following an independent funding application assessment process, successful Premier League clubs will employ a dedicated Disability Officer responsible for co-ordinating the programme and promoting inclusion.

Disability Officers will work with local agencies to amplify existing work and deliver programmes that engage disabled people through sport. Sport will be used to provide a range of opportunities such as volunteering, education, employability, and apprenticeships.
