The defending champions progressed as winners of Group E thanks to a 2-0 victory over this season's surprise package Red Bull Salzburg in Austria.
In an open, end-to-end game, the Reds took the lead in the second half thanks to Naby Keita's header before Mo Salah, who missed several other chances, produced a wonderful right-foot finish.
Frank Lampard's men overcame Lille at Stamford Bridge with Tammy Abraham opening the scoring with a smart finish, before captain Cesar Azpilicueta headed in a second.
The result is not enough to see them win the group however, with 10-man Valencia upsetting the odds and winning 1-0 away at Ajax to see last season's semi-finalists head to the Europa League.
Salzburg 0-2 Liverpool
Chelsea 2-1 Lille
17-year-old Ansu Fati becomes the youngest ever goalscorer in Champions League history after scoring in Barcelona's 2-1 victory over Inter Milan which eliminates the Italian side from the competition.
England forward Jadon Sancho scores one goal and creates another as Borussia Dortmund beat Slavia Prague to seal their place in the UEFA Champions League last 16.
Last season's UEFA Champions League semi-finalists Ajax are eliminated from this year's competition after a narrow home defeat to Valencia who progress in their place.
Arkadiusz Milik scores a first-half hat-trick, with Dries Mertens dispatching beautifully from the spot, to see Napoli through to the last 16 as runners-up to Liverpool.
Both Lyon and RB Leipzig progress to the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League after a 2-2 draw at Parc Olympique Lyonnais.
Benfica secure their joint-biggest win in the UEFA Champions League with a comfortable 3-0 win over 10-man Zenit St Petersburg at Estádio da Luz.
Goal of the night
Lyon midfielder Houssem Aoua channels his inner Thierry Henry to cut in from the left hand side of the box and curl a sumptuous effort beyond the goalkeeper and into the top corner.
Save of the night
Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Burki shows tremendous reactions to deny Slavia Prague forward Peter Olayinka from point-blank range.
It's Roman Burki taking the plaudits once again. With the Bundesliga giants welcoming the Czech side to Westfalenstadion, the Swiss stopper was not expected to be the busier of the two goalkeepers but he was certainly there to be counted when his side needed him.
Quote of the night
"He's scored a ridiculous goal, I don't know how it went in from there!"
The Liverpool full-back marvels at his team-mate's finish from such a tight angle on his weaker foot, as the Egyptian produces yet another piece of magic for Jurgen Klopp's men.

Picture of the night
Agony and ecstasy. Valencia upset the odds to knock out last season's semi-finalists and recreate scenes reminiscent of Tottenham's dramatic late victory at the Amsterdam Arena.
