Greenhouse Sports use basketball to engage young people who are either not in school, or under achieving in school, to improve their health and wellbeing, build confidence and self-esteem, and improve enrolment and achievement in school.
Greenhouse’s coaches work closely with schools to identify those young people that could benefit from the intervention of basketball and mentoring, and then embed themselves for four years into the school to really make a difference. Young people take part in weekly sessions that mix mentoring and basketball.
With funding from The Supporters Club, Greenhouse will be able to employ five new coaches to deliver this programme in five London schools with a high number of pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds.
For this project, Greenhouse and The Supporters Club have partnered with the National Basketball Association, who will offer support in the form of specialist coaches to deliver sessions and provide teaching materials.
