Jayson Tatum and Shane Larkin bagged 16-point hauls as the Boston Celtics overcame a sizeable deficit and an injury to star man Kyrie Irving to defeat the Charlotte Hornets.
Irving took a blow to the head in the first quarter and was pulled to be monitored for possible concussion symptoms. In his absence it seemed Charlotte would pull off a shock win when they moved into a 76-64 lead after the third quarter.
Boston’s winning run was in jeopardy against a side who had lost their last three but the early Eastern Conference leaders, buoyed by Tatum and Larkin, roared back in the fourth quarter to edge to a 90-87 victory.
Terry Rozier also proved instrumental as he contributed 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists to lift Boston to their 11th successive win.
Reggie Jackson bagged 13 of his 22 points in the final six minutes – including two three-pointers inside the last 60 seconds – as the Detroit Pistons saw off the Atlanta Hawks 111-104.
It was a seventh win in eight for the Pistons and their fourth in a row largely thanks to the efforts of Jackson and Andre Drummond, who contributed 16 points, 20 rebounds and a career-best seven assists.
Paul George’s 42 points plus Russell Westbrook’s 22-haul and eight assists saw the Oklahoma City Thunder end a four-game losing run as they downed the Los Angeles Clippers 120-111.
Giannis Antetokounmpo poured in 28 points and 12 rebounds to propel the Milwaukee Bucks to a 94-87 win over the San Antonio Spurs and the Indiana Pacers cruised past the Chicago Bulls 105-87 as Victor Oladipo contributed 25 points.
The Miami Heat overturned a 12-point half-time deficit to beat the Utah Jazz 84-74, Aaron Gordon notched 22 points to steer the Orlando Magic to a 128-112 victory over the Phoenix Suns and the Brooklyn Nets pipped the Portland Trail Blazers 101-97.
