Man United now switch focus to Boateng in defender hunt

Manchester United’s hunt for a new central defender has already taken them in several different directions, but their focus has very much switched to Bayern Munich's Jerome Boateng in the last 24 hours. The Red Devils have been heavily linked with big-money moves for Toby Alderweireld, Harry Maguire and Yerry Mina in recent weeks, but according to a report from German outlet Bild Boateng is now Jose Mourinho's preferred target. The reported asking price is a cool €50m and French champions PSG are also reportedly interested. Mourinho is desperate to strengthen his backline ahead of the new season, telling the media after United's 1-0 pre-season friendly defeat by Bayern in Munich on Sunday: "If we don’t make our team better it will be a difficult season for us" - a clear indication of his current state of mind.

Liverpool’s Fekir pursuit could be back on in fresh twist

Liverpool's summer-long pursuit of Lyon playmaker Nabil Fekir could be back on - with reports suggesting the French club are now prepared to sell their star man. The Reds came close to sealing a deal for Fekir earlier this summer, but reportedly pulled out of the deal amid concerns over a knee injury. Despite the deal collapsing, that hasn't halted speculation that a deal between the two parties could yet be revived. Now, French publication L'Equipe is reporting Lyon are ready to return to the negotiating table, with a fee of around £60m now enough to convince them to part with Fekir. Liverpool have already signed Xherdan Shaqiri in the aftermath of Fekir's move collapsing, but the Reds could be tempted to revisit the deal once more to complete a truly astonishing summer of spending.

Courtois keeping calm as Madrid move hangs in the balance

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is remaining calm as he awaits news of a potential summer transfer to Real Madrid. The Belgian stopper, who won the Golden Glove at this summer's World Cup, is keen on a move back to the Spanish capital where his young family still live following his three-year loan spell with Atletico Madrid. The Blues are reluctant to sell, but it's thought a deal could yet be thrashed out between the two parties this week. Courtois, as quoted by Spanish publication Marca, is keen to focus on preparations for the new season though, refusing to be drawn into further comment. "My transfer? I am not going to say anything about that now, it is a delicate situation. I cannot say much, I am not thinking about that, I am calm and becoming anxious would not help. What is important is to be ready for next season."

Toffees move into pole position in Mina race

Barcelona defender Yerry Mina looks set to complete a move to Everton after the two clubs agreed a fee of £28.5m for the Colombian international defender. Mina, who starred at this summer's World Cup finals in Russia, has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in recent days, with recent reports confirming that United officials were in Barcelona last week to thrash out a deal. That deal now looks to be off though with Spanish news outlet Sport reporting Everton have muscled in on proceedings to agree a fee with the La Liga champions. Should the formalities of the move be completed Mina will link up with former Barca team-mate Lucas Digne once more, the Frenchman having just completed a move to Goodison Park last week.

Milan ace Rodriguez now on Arsenal’s radar

Arsenal manager Unai Emery is contemplating a last-gasp summer swoop for AC Milan full-back Ricardo Rodriguez after an injury to Sead Kolašinac plunged the Gunners into crisis. Kolašinac is facing the prospect of up to 10 weeks on the sidelines after picking up a knee injury against Chelsea in a friendly last week, while alternative option Nacho Monreal has failed to feature in pre-season after returning from World Cup duty with Spain with a slight knock of his own. As a result Emery is considering making a late dip into the transfer market, with MailOnline Sport reporting the £30m-rated Rodriguez has been identified as a potential target. The Swiss international has plied his trade in Italy for the last five seasons, having moved to Serie A from Wolfsburg. If a deal can't be struck, it's likely that Emery will turn instead to versatile youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles for cover until either Kolašinac or Monreal return to fitness.

Hammers not done yet, now targeting Gunner Perez

West Ham look set to continue their summer of unrelenting spending by making a move for Arsenal outcast Lucas Pérez. The Spanish striker has endured a torrid time in north London since joining the Gunners from Deportivo La Coruña for £17m two years ago, scoring just one goal in 11 Premier League appearances. He spent last season back on loan with Deportivo, though it was another season to forget for Pérez as they were relegated from La Liga. He could be handed a Premier League lifeline by the Hammers though, with The Sun reporting that Manuel Pellegrini is keen on bringing him to the London Stadium. Portuguese heavyweights Sporting CP are also keen on striking a deal for the £5m-rated Pérez, but it's thought his preference is to stay in England and prove himself worthy of a Premier League spot.

Pochettino keen to move for Celta ace Lobotka

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is keen on making a move for Celta Vigo midfielder Stanislav Lobotka. The Argentinian still wants to make additions to his squad, having failed to make a single signing so far this summer. Midfielder Mousa Dembele is believed to be keen on a north London exit however, prompting Pochettino to evaluate his options ahead of Thursday's transfer deadline. One of those options is Slovakian international Lobotka, who has a £31m release clause in his Celta contract which currently runs until the summer of 2023. He is keen to move on however, with The Mirror reporting that Spurs, along with Napoli, are interested in securing his signature. Lobotka is not the only midfield target in Spurs' sights, with Aston Villa star Jack Grealish understood to still be a key target for Pochettino.

Fulham close in on Chambers loan deal

Premier League new boys Fulham are on the verge of signing Calum Chambers on a season-long loan from Arsenal. The 23-year-old, as reported by MailOnline Sport, is due to undergo a medical at Craven Cottage where he would become Slavisa Jokanovic's seventh summer signing. Chambers only signed a new four-year deal at the Emirates Stadium this summer, but it's expected that his game time would be marginalised under new manager Unai Emery. The versatile defender, who can play at right-back as well as centre-back, could form a partnership with fellow new recruit Alfie Mawson for the coming season, after he wrapped up a £15m move to west London last week.

Best of the rest: Bournemouth are close to wrapping up a deal for Levante winger Jefferson Lerma, with a £25m fee finally agreed for the winger (Mirror). Wolves are closing in on a club-record deal for Middlesbrough Adama Traore after agreeing a fee worth in excess of £20m (Express & Star). Burnley's Ben Mee is close to signing a new deal at Turf Moor after months of speculation surrounding his future (Lancashire Telegraph). Newcastle are closing in on a loan deal for West Brom striker Salomon Rondon, with Dwight Gayle set to go the other way (MailOnline Sport).
